Kurtz was once a highly respected and decorated officer in the U.S. Army, seemingly destined for generalship. However, his experiences in Vietnam led him to question the morality and methods of the war.
Driven to madness by the horrors he witnessed and participated in, Kurtz deserted his post and established himself as a god-like figure among a local tribe in Cambodia. He commands a private army and engages in brutal and unconventional warfare.
Captain Benjamin L. Willard is sent on a secret mission to assassinate Kurtz, whose actions are deemed detrimental to the American war effort. Willard's journey upriver is a descent into the heart of darkness, both geographically and psychologically, culminating in his confrontation with the enigmatic and unsettling Kurtz.
